Hello, my sweet ones. I’ve missed you. As much as I needed that bloggy break, I thought about each and every one of you while I was gone (I’m serious!) and how much I wanted to reconnect. It’s funny how I feel such a strong bond with so many of you though we’ve never met.
I went to Watkins Glen, NY, for a Phish festival (shocker) over the July 4th weekend. It was epic. I actually don’t even have words to describe how much fun it was so instead I leave you with a few of my favorite pictures (I’m sorry, I don’t know why these are so mini, but you can click to enlarge):
Not sure if you noticed, but that’s Mike Gordon in the first picture! Also, I would like to extend a very big thank you to my buddy Alan who was my travel/tent companion for the weekend. He was an awesome partner in crime and I’m grateful we had the chance to spend some time getting to know each other a bit better. So, if you’re reading: thanks again for everything!
I realized a lot of my stress lately has to do with things that are beyond my control and I’m going to ease up on myself for a while. I have been really down lately and it’s a feeling I can’t seem to shake. As difficult as it is to put myself out there, I realize that rejection is always a likely outcome in these kinds of situations. What’s important is that I accept, move on, and try again. It’s all that I can do.
Which also means letting go of the fact that I have a wedding to attend in three weeks and will probably not have a date. I tried, it didn’t work, and it’s not the worst thing in the world to go stag, right? Besides, I’ll be there with many old college friends and I’m ready to rock a sexy, slinky one-shoulder dress. I’m not one for retail therapy but it was a purchase that instantly made me feel just a wee bit better.
More to come soon. I’m sunburned like you wouldn’t believe and I’m having a hard time composing my thoughts. And I promise to make my rounds to all of your blogs very soon. Being away from you all was much harder than I had anticipated.

wow that looks like so much fun! i’m glad you got to go… and see mike gordon! 🙂 also, i prefer going to weddings stag because i always spend the whole time wanting to catch up with a million friends anyway. plus, there are always cute guys at weddings. i actually know a good number of couples who met at mutual friends’ weddings. so you never know… but i agree with the fact that you should go easy on yourself no matter what happens. don’t feel like you have rush anything or make a relationship happen in the near future. it will happen when it’s supposed to, that’s what i think anyway.
OK, darling…I canNOT even begin to tell you how many weddings I’ve gone to alone.
And ended up having a FABULOUS time.
Weddings are very casual, intimate, friendly, so unlike going to a bar alone.
Something I”ve never done.
You will have a great time.
GREAT.
Mark my words (eww…that sounds scarier than it should.)
Love you always.
AND. I’m all for retail therapy.
Just ask my husband.
xo
I’m glad you took a little breaklet for yourself. Burned out blogs are no fun. I’m not too sure about Jeff Gordon, but I loved the giant head sculpture. I hope you got to ride up the ferris wheel after your pic from the bottom. Your 4th does look epic!
I’m honored to have been thought about, lol. Glad you had fun either way, my trip to New Orleans taught me one thing how worth it is to unplug even for a weekend.
Oh I’m so glad you had fun! I’m posting about my trip today too (it was FABULOUS!)
Girl, I’ve been going to weddings single since I got divorced. It’s just easier and now, FAR more fun! Seriously, you don’t have to worry about making sure your date, if they don’t know everyone, is comfortable. That said, I may be bringing a certain someone to my sister’s wedding in two weeks…. we shall see! *winks*
Great to see you back and that you had a spectacular time! I’ve missed you though!
Oh I’m so glad you had a good time! You’ve been missed!
I heard so many good things about Super Ball! I’m glad you had a good time 🙂
I’m glad you had a nice vacation. Sometimes we need to take a break from blogging.
Sounds like a great getaway. It’s good to get some perspective. Do you know if there will be single guys at the wedding? When I used to attend weddings solo, if I knew the bride or groom well, I’d ask them to introduce me to any single guys. It didn’t end up in a relationship, but it was fun to hang out with some fellow single people for a night.
I completely agree with your first sentiment! It sounds uber cheesy but there is something rather powerful about the blogging community and you do end up feeling incredibly connected… 🙂 I’m glad you had a fabulous time away.
In regards to dating and such, it’s hard and I’m happy to hear that you’re going to ease up on yourself. You’re funny and vibrant and intelligent and you’re going to enjoy a fun wedding and the rest is just… the rest. You’ll probably have more fun going solo then worrying about whether or not your date is having an enjoyable evening! xx
Looks like it was an awesome weekend and one you needed. Taking a break from online life to refocus on offline feelings is so important and I am glad you are back. I missed you.
Sometimes we just need some down time. Enjoy it. Revitalize. Feed your soul.
I am happy to hear you are having some fun.
Weddings are a great place for a random make-out/hook-up. Just sayin.
Get yours girl!
hey sweets. I took last week off from blogging too . I totally know what you mean about missing all of your bloggy friends. I’m catching up on my reading and am enjoying seeing what’s been happening in everyone’s lives. Glad you had a GREAT time at the show.
btw, have you ever been to a HUGE lounge and rooftop bar called 230 5th? Went there last weekend on a double date with B and my bestie. Music slightly cheesy, but killer view and no cover.
I love that you call us your “sweet ones”! 🙂
I’m glad you had such an epically awesome time at Phish. Will be you showing us a pic of your one-shouldered dress?
Welcome back! Looks like you had some fun and had some time to think about some things.
Retail therapy is always fabulous!
I hope you’re not stressed anymore!
I am crossing my fingers that there will be a wonderful dateless interesting guy at the wedding.
Sometimes we do just need a break from everything. You know how much I adore you and I don;t want you to be so stressed out. I hope that your break gave you some time to relax and get rid of some of that stress. And I so second what Hutch wrote. Go get ’em!
Looks like great fun! I hope you do lay off yourself a bit. I think you’re handling this whole situation remarkably well and the more you can relax and enjoy life the more you’ll be ready to welcome someone into yours.
If its any consolation whenever I go anywhere with my husband I feel like I’ve gone stag. He finds someone to talk to as soon as we hit the doors and I usually see him only once or twice after that. At least you get to flirt! 😉
Oh taking a break is good sometimes…I am thinking about doing the same thing. And I love that you said “epic” so awesome! Good for you for getting away and having some fun!
Sounds like so much fun and a blogging break is really nice sometimes. You must post pictures of the new dress!
Hon, you are gonna go to that wedding and rock the hot, slinky number AND you’re gonna have a freakin’ blast!
Who gives a s–t if you don’t have a date? Pshaw. As if any random wedding goer would ever keep tabs on that (and if they do, they’re tools). There is so much fun in going single, as you know.
And I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling down…we all get in these stupid funks now and again. This too shall pass!
So glad you are back. I’ve been on a wee break myself.
I understand what you are saying about the wedding. In the grand scheme of things it does not matter if you have a date but weddings can make me feel lonely. I think that is okay but not getting sweep away by that emotion is what can be the challenge. Hope your morning adventure was/is fun.
Phish should pay you. Really.
Glad you’re going to ease up on yourself. It’s summer! Enjoy time with your girlfriends and going to a wedding alone actually sounds fun. You don’t have to worry about anyone else, you can just drink eat and be merry as you want! Happy you’re back. xo
This might just be the romantic in me talking, but I always hold out hope for a superfine groomsman. Or a quirky uncle. Either way…
Rock that dress. And take some pictures!
