I love this time of year. After months of hibernating, it’s nice to shed a few layers of clothing and enjoy the great outdoors. The weather this weekend was perfect: mild, sunny, comfortable. A lot of my activities were outside so it was nice not to have to worry about an umbrella or a heavy coat.
My uncle remarried on Saturday at a swanky French restaurant in the city and I wore my black beaded cocktail dress and HIGH heels. Then again, I’m accustomed to Birkenstocks and sneaks so anything with a heel is high. It was wonderful to catch up with my brother and cousins, welcome new members into our crazy family, and kick back quite a few glasses of white wine.
Some of my favorite moments of the evening:
1) My dad asking me if I could drive him home as I stuffed cheese puffs in my face.
2) The random drunk guy shaking hands and chatting it up with everyone (I have no idea what his relation to my family is and I don’t think anyone else did either).
3) My cousin turning to me and saying, “You know… there’s only one thing missing here.” Pause. “Jackson.” I guess he didn’t get the memo. DRINK!
4) Naomi Campbell at a nearby table. It wasn’t actually her, but my entire family was convinced it was and they thought it would be appropriate to gawk, take photos, point, and stare some more.
5) Eating something that I thought was vegetarian and then laughing in my cousin’s face when he said there was definitely meat in it. Thirteen years as a veggie out the window. It’s not the first time this has happened. Apparently I have the tendency to eat meat products when I’ve had a few drinks. This happened last summer at a BBQ when I inhaled a dip I could have sworn was made with cheese (it was chicken). How anyone can make this mistake is beyond me, but I digress.
I was also able to catch up with old friends this weekend and went out for a girlfriend’s birthday, had brunch with some friends in an apartment on the upper west side, and met up with an old college roomie in Central Park. Jackson was far from my thoughts this weekend. I even flirted with a few cute boys. Not that I’m expecting anything to develop but I’m back in the saddle again. Sorta. It only took six months but I’m proud to say that I am on the mend and things are looking up once again. La vita è bella.
Yay! Good for you honey! It’s awesome that you got your flirt on again. The warm weather is going to bring good things for you. I know it! xoxo
Glad you are enjoying this weather too. Spring is a time for “house cleaning” and new Beginnings. Isn’t also mating season? 🙂
You have a great attitude and I’m glad that things are looking up for you. Happier times are ahead I’m sure.
So glad things are looking up! Spring is the perfect time to start fresh. Lots of exciting possibilities ahead… 🙂
I don’t know why the veg thing makes me giggle but it does. I do some ridiculous stuff while I’m drunk too (I think that’s the point).
Could be worse than eating meat though – so have at it since you’re a “good” drinker.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂 It’s so beautiful out here – There is nothing more renewing to me than soaking up some sun & enjoying the fresh outdoors!
