In all my childhood memories, I run barefoot to the ice cream truck and watch as the afternoon sun melts strawberry shortcake all over my dress. My brother and I spend hours digging up dirt in search of gold coins and play kickball in the street. On a really good day, we are invited over to the neighbor’s house to climb the jungle gym in their backyard.
The nostalgia of summer days and the magic of those summer nights is hard to recreate when we get older and face the everyday responsibilities of adult life. There’s absolutely nothing romantic about having to shuffle money around to pay for rent or take on jobs we wouldn’t ordinarily touch with a ten-foot pole so we can breathe just a little bit easier.
That said, it’s important that we treat ourselves to snapshot memories, too. Like days spent wandering around the city without an agenda or hopping in the car for a road trip just because.

My summer memories are the same as yours! My sisters and I spent the entire day outdoors with our neighborhood friends. Digging in the dirt, playing tag, riding bikes and chasing after the ice cream man! I can still picture it all so clearly. Summer was and always will be my favorite season! I get SO nostalgic for summers when I was a kid, it’s almost a little painful. I think some of my favorite summer memories are from when we used to go camping – bonfires, sticky s’mores, my very first crush, and even going to the water park. I would not give those memories up for ANYTHING.
