The best thing about living so close to one of the greatest cities in the world is the fact that there’s never a shortage of things to do on a weekend. I received a phone call from a girlfriend Saturday afternoon that Dave Matthews was playing at MSG later that evening and she wanted to know if I wanted to try and score some tix with her. We went shortly before show time, put fingers in the air, but sadly, we did not get lucky. Apparently looking for a ticket to see DMB is nothing like looking for an extra at a Phish show since people were extremely confused by what the fingers actually meant. “Buying or selling?” was a question I received about 20 times and one guy told me I was number one. At one point, my friend pulled me aside and we watched as a woman unzipped her pants and pissed right in front of us. Only in Manhattan.
Our backup plan was to go see the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight on 23rd Street. It’s been on my list of things to do forever and I enjoy anything with a devoted cult following (explains my Phish obsession). Before show time, all of the “virgins” were summoned to the front. When I asked my friend what they would make me do, she told me not to worry about it (after three captain and cokes, I’m not sure I was worried about much of anything) and that the audience would probably tell me to fuck off.
I could deal with that.
I didn’t realize the challenge was to fake an orgasm. THANK GOD I was number 13 and they were only interested in the top 10. I’m not sure I could have faked it (which isn’t to say I’ve never done it before, but I don’t need an audience of 200 people watching me, thankyouverymuch).
I also allowed myself ample time to lounge in my pajamas, sip coffee, and catch up on blog reading over the weekend. I made it through a good portion of your blogs though I still have quite a few more I’d like to read.
I got to meet one of my very favorite bloggers on Monday for the first time ever. It was very nice to sit down with someone who understands life in the blogging world, so a special thank you to Shana for drinks and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

I’ve only seen Rocky Horror once, but what do they classify as a virgin? No way I could have done that sober in front of people!

It is definitely not the same getting tix for DMB as it is for Phish! I wish it was like that. People do sell on lot but not in the same manner as Phish I guess. MSG were big shows for them too…did you find any for sale for full price?
Sorry you missed it! Night two was fantastic, so I hear. Dave lost his voice and the crowd sang like three full songs (sounds crappy, but supposedly it was awesome), and they played basically a dream setlist!

I once faked an orgasm on stage at a bar to win free shots. And I don’t drink shots. I mainly did it because I was on a very boring date and hoped if I embarrassed him that he would leave…or I could give him my free shots until he passed out.
@stacy: yea, there were definitely tix going for full price, but we were looking to get some cheapies. apparently they were practically giving them away friday night so we figured we’d try our luck. oh well!

You didn’t want to summon your inner Meg Ryan impersonation? š I can’t say as I blame you, it’s one thing to do it for just one person, but a whole crowd of strangers….no thank you! I’ve always wondered what it would be like to live in an area like you do…or at least visit. I enjoy my smaller town way of life, but it does get a bit dull at times. My weekend went well, looking forward to this one though. A good friend who moved away last year is coming for a visit, although I’m not excited about the amount of cleaning I’ve been doing to get ready for said visit.

Hi there, just wanted to say thanks for the comment and understanding. Sucks loosing a friend and it’s heartbreaking to think that we can’t be fair weather friends, at least not face to face. I will keep her close, and I’m planning on dragging the kiddies out to see her for winter break.

I loved seeing the Rocky Horror Pic Show when I was in college. Don’t remember the Virgins going up front in the beginning, but people dressed up and danced around during parts of it….making it very amusing. I tried to watch it a few years ago…was not the same as seeing it in college with friends after rolling out of a bar. Glad you enjoyed; sounds like you are a blast to be around:)

I never did take advantage of being so close when I lived up that way! But, I did have the ‘pleasure’ of having a ticket to a DMB concert at which there were 10,000 gate crashers… yeah that was fun! I can see why you weren’t able to find tickets
