I would like to encourage you all to visit the blog of a dear coworker of mine. Emily is a super beautiful girl, both inside and out, and I hope you’ll be so kind as to show some love to her fabulous blog. Her corner of the web touches on many things we can relate to, from finding love in the big city to keeping friends when bridges and tunnels get in the way. emilyinnyc.wordpress.com/

Last week was a very strange week. Not necessarily strange in a bad way, but I felt off somehow. I blame the fact that there were entirely too many extreme highs and lows. Extreme highs: going to see Jackson Browne at the Beacon Theater, taking an amazing Bikram class, and dancing my ass off at the Zach Deputy boat cruise (but I’ll get back to that later). The lows: oversleeping for work and feeling like I was hit by a mack truck, receiving bad news about the family dog (though he seems to be doing better now), and having to contact the ex. I won’t get into details but I will say that our email exchange affirms why we are no longer together. (And, for the record, the only reason I contacted him was to find out if he’s attending a concert I want to get tickets to).
Friday night while I was out for tapas with some girlfriends I filled them in on the details. And then, all of a sudden and out of the blue: waterworks. It may have been the sangria talking but clearly I had some things weighing heavily on my mind. And what really surprised me was that I found myself thinking about Brandon, the 26-year-old I described in my last post, and I was upset I hadn’t heard anything from him. Do I like him? Can I ever get beyond the age difference? Am I just lonely? I haven’t quite figured out the answer to any of those questions just yet.
But Saturday rolled in and I rolled out of bed, assaulted with a killer hangover. My brother arrived late afternoon, we went out for dinner, and then met up with friends for a 30th birthday party on board the Half Moon to hear Zach Deputy. For those of you unfamiliar with his music, he is a one-man band and is known for his looping skills. He has amazing musicality and rocks the house (or boat) by blending reggae, calypso, and funk. His shows are a giant dance party and I haven’t stopped listening to him since I went to see him Saturday night. Right now he’s tops on things that rock my world. That evening he served up some chicken pot pie and I danced with reckless abandon, happy to leave the memory of my tear-soaked cheeks behind.
And then this happened:

for lifting my spirits
I got to meet the man himself and he’s every bit as sweet and genuine in person as he is an uber-talented performer.
All is right in the world yet again.
Hey…went and left Emily a little bloggy love.
Sorry you were feeling down…contact with the ex can do that to a person. I’m glad you had a fun time on Saturday that. That picture is adorable…you look so teeny standing next to him.

I LOVE the picture! You are so gorgeous! How cool that you got to meet him and even better that he is a great person. 🙂
I’m so glad your weekend ended on an up-note. Those roller coaster weeks can take a lot out of you.
I had one of my best Bikram classes EVER last week followed by one of the worst ones last night. (Heat and humidity outside + too many bodies in the room = ugh.)

It’s amazing what good music can do for the soul! Hopefully this week is more on for you. I’ve had plenty of those weeks where it just feels like karma is kicking your butt. But I guess it’s all part of this wonderful circle of life (I’ve been watching the Lion King :p).

I love music, and what it can do to me.
That picture is one that will lift your spirits always.
I’m sorry about the effed up communication with your x. It’s awful when you’re frustrated and someone just won’t work with you.
It’s all so stupid, sometimes, isn’t it?
I wanted to thank you for always leaving the kindest, most generous comments for me.
You are very special, I can feel that.
Thank you, so much, and I skip a little when I see that you’ve been by.
I hope you have a very peaceful, restful weekend. And thank you, for how you lift my spirits.
and he looks like he borrowed some of your curls for his beard! 🙂
Some days waterworks happen…..wait til you hit menopause! haha! I burst into tears for no good reason in a department store looking at a toy duck and I never normally cry. You come across as a strong person though so |i’m sure plenty more highs will be on their way for you. Thank you for you reading my post and commenting. Just as well the axe didn’t hit him in the head. I was more freaked out than I cared to admit. The good news is he lit the log burner last night because it was so cold and the axe sat beside him and enjoyed the warmth! xx ps what’s Bikram?

We are definitely having similar weeks with the waterworks – unfortunately! Love that pic of you and Zach – have not heard of him before but I can tell from the pic that he seems like a gentle soul…

What a great picture! We all have the ups and downs, but it sounded like your day ended with more of the ups than the downs and that is definitely a good thing! I’ve never heard of Zach deputy before, but from his picture he looks like a genuinely kind soul. I’ll have to google him and find out a bit more!
Thanks for the ever so kind words of support, Charlotte. I want to just hug Zach — he looks adorably bear-like. I had a musical weekend too — I went to a music festival with a few friends from work. Bob Schneider was the big show, but I discovered a band I just fell in love with. From Austin (of course), a group called The Bluebonnets. The name sounds country and folksy — far from the truth. There’s a lot of punky influence there. Have a listen: http://thebluebonnets.net/music.htm
I’m sorry you had tears, but that injury will make you heal even stronger. XXOO
I’m glad to see your day ended on a positive note. Sometimes tears come when there’s stress. They are triggered by something unrelated but it’s a good way to get it out. Whatever the reason, it’s good for you to cry every once in a while!

Hmm… It does look like you had a lot on in your mind… But I sure am happy that in the end you had some good music to lift your soul up :).
Sending you soul healing light, from one soul to another. Cheers.

There’s always one can do to brighten up their day. Music is great for that! =)
Glad to hear he made your day better and brought you many smiles.
PS. I love tapas.. those help too when life gets bumpy.
Thank yo for your sweet comments!

You are hardly a cougar at 31 when the guy’s 26! I’m sure he’ll call — it sounds like he had a good time…your life sounds full and fun. I miss living in the city — lived in DC for years with frequent business trips to NY, Chicago and CA….could not be further from that life now – live in the country and run a wild mustang sanctuary with my sweet hubby — life turns on a dime….enjoy….
Meant to comment last week (still getting used to blog etiquette) but anywho, thank you for the shout out! I’m honored to be mentioned on such a fantastic blog. I soooo understand the waterworks out of nowhere. And remember — age doesn’t matter if he’s a “real person.” 🙂
That many highs and lows in one week would throw me off, too!
