Oh, hi, Friday! Where did you come from?! I intended to post my Cape May pictures and recap earlier in the week but somehow time slipped through my fingers. As nice as it was to steal away for a few days, it also meant having to make up some work that I missed. But it was a necessary escape and I relished every moment on the beach breathing in the saltwater air.
Bryan and I stayed at an adorable and super dog-friendly bed and breakfast a short walk from the beach called the Highland House. It’s nice to rent out a beautiful home for a few days, though I’m not sure I would ever recommend the Garden Room (and especially not if you have a bigger dog as we do). Though it was great to have access to the balcony (it’s shared with another room), the room itself quickly started to feel very claustrophobic. And that’s saying a lot since I work out of my bedroom!

We had an empty itinerary, with the exception of a two-hour sunset whale/dolphin watching tour. No whales, but plenty of dolphins and a really important message at the end about how important it is to see them in their natural habitat and NOT in captivity. The captain wasn’t preachy at all, but told us some things I never knew (like that the show Flipper had a total of five dolphins over the course of taping because they kept dying). I definitely recommend this tour for anyone in the Cape May area–it really was the highlight of our trip.
Also note to self: As cute as it is to wear a flowy dress on a boat, I am keeping fingers crossed that my fanny isn’t making an appearance on YouTube right now. I’m relatively certain I mooned the boat on at least three occasions though Bryan did a valiant job of standing behind me to block the view. Classy.

Other things we did over the weekend: went to Sunset Beach at sunset our first night (also dog friendly) and watched a flag ceremony in honor of our veterans, took Buster to the Rusty Nail (which even features a dog menu you can order from!), walked along Higbee Beach (then returned to Sunset, which we liked a bit more), relaxed, ate vegan/gluten free treats from the Cape May bakery, finished a bottle of wine/several beers, read on the balcony, and drove by the shops at Congress Hall (no time for shopping, which was probably a good thing).

It took Buster about three days to fully recover. He was pretty pooped by the end of our vacation, but I think he loved it (and in this picture, he’s clearly dreaming about the hot dogs he had to eat at the Rusty Nail).
Have you taken any good getaway trips lately?
That’s so sad about Flipper!
I miss Cape Cod. We only went once this summer. The bakery is delicious. I think we’ll go again in November. It will be strange then, but maybe a good kind of strange.
That sounds like so much fun.
We don’t really have places like that here in California. I mean, we have a lot of cute little beach towns, but…Oh, I don’t know. Maybe we DO have places like Cape May and I’m just missing them.
I am SO jealous, I need a getaway something FIERCE right now. Unfortunately we’re saving up money for our honeymoon so no getaways till then =-/
It sounds like a wonderful time, except for the dress on boat bit 🙂
The trip sounds divine, Charlotte! And your pictures are beautiful! That is incredibly sad about Flipper. 🙁 There is no way a show like that could be shot today with peta and that’s a good thing.
this looks like such a lovely getaway! I love cape cod!
