Keeping the romance alive in your relationship is something you definitely have to work at.
A healthy and long-term alliance with your partner has many positive benefits, but it’s easy to take an enduring relationship for granted. Here are some ways to get the fire burning again If the romance needs rekindling.
A work in progress
You should always aim to take the view that your long-term liaison with the person you fell madly in love with is a work in progress. Many couples tend to think that their loving relationship will simply last forever when they first get together and then make the mistake of thinking that they don’t have to work on keeping the love as strong as ever.
There is some research that suggests from a biological point of view, that humans are not really designed for long-term relationships. The simple explanation behind this theory is that our body chemistry causes the heart to flutter when we first fall in love.
Our body chemistry then becomes more geared towards attachment after a few years, so you definitely have to consider your relationship as a work in progress and fight those chemical signals.
Seizing the moment
It is far too easy to take each moment for granted as you settle into a long-term bond with your partner, so you need to work at catching the romance when you can and reignite that initial spark of attraction. Simple acts like holding hands while on a walk or indulging in an extra long lingering kiss to welcome your partner home or just to say you love them can make you both feel good about each other.
Spiritual assistance
Sometimes you might need a bit of outside help to put things back on track.
Sharing an experience together–such as seeing a psychic and going for a tarot card reading–can potentially help to rebuild a relationship that is struggling for direction.
A psychic is not going to give you advice on how to save your marriage but she can tell you if she thinks your relationship can be saved and help you find a spiritual connection.
Individual interests
If you have your own individual hobbies and interests, this should not necessarily be a bad thing or viewed as a sign that you are drifting apart in any way. Developing individual interests will give you the potential for a richer life together as it gives you more to talk about and helps you appreciate your partner when you catch up with them again at the end of the day.
Active sex life
It is almost impossible to maintain the same level of passion that you will have experienced when you first got together as a couple. It’s important to make time for sex and romance in your life and couples who lead a healthy and reasonably active sex life tend to live longer and are often perceived to be happier as well!
Love and romance are strongly associated with each other, but you do need to work on keeping the romance alive in order to enjoy the enduring love that those in a long-term relationship enjoy.
Thanks for the great advice, Marie! What are you doing in your relationship to keep the spark alive?

This is awesome. That has worried me since I studied it in high school and college – that humans may not be meant for long term relationships.
And yet, as much as a lot of people can’t do it, a lot of people can. My grandparents were married for over 70 years. I’m not even halfway to 7 years. My husband makes my heart flutter, but it’s not every day. And we do have to follow these tips!
I think as long as both people realize that they have to work on things then they can continue to thrive in their relationship.
