Hello, blogland! I’ve been terribly neglectful of my little corner of the web and I’ve missed it. I do have some very exciting projects in the works (details to come soon!), but unfortunately that means I don’t always have the time to keep up with my own blog.
I took off on Monday and spent the day getting poked and prodded… and not in a good way. Hey-o! Thank you, I’ll be here all week.
Last week sort of kicked me in the gut a little bit. Not sure what I did to upset the cosmos, but I was forced to go on a liquid diet when my body started rejecting foods it had always enjoyed (and let me tell you, eating soup in 90+ degree weather? Totally sucks big donkey balls). Said diet was also the reason I cancelled a trip to Montauk with my friend this past weekend and the reason I called off plans with the same date. Twice. Then my face started breaking out like I was 13 all over again, the heat made my hair expand to epic proportions, and all I wanted to do was eat ice cream and hang out in air conditioning all day. I should find out the results of my bloodwork and ultrasounds in the next day or two. Fingers crossed I’m back to my ol’ self in no time.
Two of my dear friends were married this past Sunday in a beautiful wedding in Sayville, NY. It was wonderful to dance the hora, laugh until my face hurt, and scope out the cuties on the dance floor. What was I so worried about? Being the single gal at a wedding was not as bad as I thought it would be. There was a moment when I found myself completely alone in the bridal suite with a guy I had my sights on. He looked me up and down, I gave him a sexy “well, helloooooo there,” and then I panicked and ran out. Smooth. I also got to meet Brad Sands, Phish’s ex-tour manager, and took a photo with him. I wanted to talk but there was a circle of phishheads around him all evening and I didn’t get a chance. Whomp!
Earlier I mentioned having to cancel on the same date twice. We finally had our chance to hang out last night, and I’m kind of crushing on him a little bit. We met online on a Phish board and then in a neighborhood bar a week later (turns out we live three blocks from one another). He was the first person I ever met sight unseen but I figured the Phish connection meant he had to be cool, right? Turns out, he’s ridiculously handsome. Which led me to believe he is a player. The first time we met, he said a few of his friends who are also on the boards would join us. So there I am in a bar surrounded by five adorable phishies. Not the worst thing in the world. But then he asked to hang out again yesterday and somehow I found myself in his friend’s apartment with two of his buddies and a dog.
And then he fist bumped me.
That combined with the fact that each time I hang out with him he invites his friends along makes me think he’s not interested. Right?
oh, I wouldn’t rule it out based on a fist bump – see where it goes…. if only more fist bumps in the future, then yeah, maybe at that point I’d agree 🙂
I’m so sorry about your sicklies…I hope you get some answers!
The fist bumps are odd. Clearly he likes hanging out but usually guys don’t bring there friends around so quickly/often if there’s a dating mindset. Doesn’t mean never though.
Oh you! I hope you’re feeling okay and also? Don’t rule out the fist bumper! I repeat: do not rue out the fist bumper. FLIRT with him instead {If you’re interested that is}. That is all. XO
BLEH!!! You know what? There is nothing worse than feeling like crappola (especially when it comes to food) and then having to WAIT to find out why you feel like crappola. I hope there is something in there to points to something definitive. Better day vibes coming your way!!
I agree with everyone else. Fist bumping is not necessarily the end of the whole thing. He may have been burned by dates before and is taking it really really slow. If you can try to take it at the same pace as him and see where it goes…it could be really awesome. Eventually. He could also be REALLY nervous and this is sort of his defense mechanism….he knows how to be a friend. I wouldn’t jump to conclusions just yet. But after 4 or 5 dates if he’s still inviting other people along and you aren’t getting anywhere then perhaps think about excusing yourself. I mean, I know girls who would LOVE to meet their beau’s friends…he has sort of taken it to the other extreme. But if he is constantly surrounding himself with other people, how does he expect to ever get to know just you?
What everyone else said! See how it goes…if he keeps inviting his friends, then DUUUUDE. Take him aside and say, well, as nice as it is to hang out with the Phishies, you’d like to just hang with the one Phishy, i.e. him. Hee!
So sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling the greatest…hell and damnation! Drat! Egads! Pah! (Okay, I’ll stop now.) Try not to overexert yourself, make sure you’re getting plenty of rest and do something nice for yourself.
Btw, I’ll have that piece out to you soonish. I could totally lie and say I’ve been working on it, but THAT WOULD BE A LIE (bwahahah) and I haven’t touched it since I got well into it last week. But I’ll make myself finish it veeeeeeeery soon, I promise!
xx
I hope you get to feeling better soon! Granted being christened in as “just a friend’ with a fist bump from a cute guy isn’t something any of us neccessarily hope for. But who knows, it could open you up to a great new world of friends….who could ultimately lead you to finding a cute guy who will be interested in more than a fist bump 😉
I can’t understand how a guy can be so f#$#$ idiot !
Guys are seriously so DUMB sometimes. WTF!?
What I have learned is that boys are dumb. You can’t read too much into what they say or do…because usually, they aren’t that deep. I think the fist bump is fine…as long as it doesn’t become his way of “kissing” you goodnight.
And I think if you want to kiss him and he’s not making the move…you should just go for it. What have you got to lose?
First of all…I hope you’re feeling better!!! And whatever it is thats made you sick goes away asap!
Second…when you initially hung out was it stated that it was a date? If it was and he invited all his friends to come thats not cool. I mean I get keeping it casual but still… I think before I can say anything I’d need to know whether or not it was or seemed to be that your first meeting was falling in the date category…
Hilarious! Who knows. Sounds a tad immature. Perhaps he’s shy? Hook up with one of his friends and see if he gets jealous. Joking. I would never do that. Now.
Feel better doll. I go through weird phases every now and again where I look like total hell (usually before my period) and never considered that I upset the cosmos but that must be it!
Well, I think he totally likes you in an adult way, but acting it out like a teenage boy!
I don’t know. I can’t tell. Maybe he’s just trying to get to know you…like hanging out before dating.
Well…I suppose it could mean he’s comfortable with you and wants you around his friends? But the fist bump is a bit concerning.
I am so sorry about your eating issues! That is so so so SO unfortunate, I hope they get worked out ASAP.
Also, maybe he was worried about hanging out by himself with a girl off a board? I don’t know, it’s confusing.
I asked Inspector Climate first, he says the fist bump is irrelevant. Second he says that if the guy keeps inviting you to hang out with him that’s a good thing and a positive sign and the fact that he wants you to hang out with his friends means he likes you and isn’t embarrassed to acknowledge he likes you in front of his friends.
Wow, fist bump? Yes, that doesn’t sound like what you were hoping to hear. I really hope you feel better soon!
First off I hope you feel better soon! YUCK. Nothing worse than food allergies. I agree with the others, he’s gotta be slightly immature, or maybe shy.
If I really want to get to know a woman, or if I want her to get to know me, I arrange to spend time in a group of friends. When people are on a date they are on their best behavior; when they’re with friends you’re exposed to the most authentic version of themselves possible. So go hang out, see what happens, and don’t attach yourself to outcome!

I hope you’re feeling better, sunshine. The friends and the fist-bumping sound very middle school, which does NOT sound like a player. If he were a player, he’d already be working the smooth talk and the lines. Give him another chance or two. Maybe he’s just ascared of you. Boys really are dumb.
Lord girl! I hope you get some answers to your medical issues! Liquid diet??? OY!
Other than that, sounds like you’ve been having yourself lots of fun. I played single girl at my sister’s wedding too, although I was not the only one… didn’t matter… made sure I had fun and then I drove home in the back of my grandfather’s mini-van with my parents and children… that’s how I roll 🙂
Take me with you to hang out with him and his friends next time! I’ll distract his friends for you. hehe.
Donkey what? Lol. I missed you while I was on blog break.
I think he is interested but not emotionally secure/mature yet. This sounds like a case of ‘I don’t want to have to work too hard for you but I shouldn’t have to, because I am freakin’ HOT’ syndrome. I say test the waters and ask for a real date and see what happens. Bottom line, if he is not willing to bring his A game then he is not husband material. (And in my humble experience the courtship is the most romantic part of your relationship, cuz once your married you trade in the mystery for loving stability. So if he can’t bring it in the first quarter than you can imagine the downhill ride you might have in future.)
The fist bump? That sucks. Maybe he is just intimidated by you and doesn’t know what else to do so he throws in a fist bump?
