It’s been almost two years now since I’ve returned to living on my own. I’m proud to say that I’ve learned how to cook healthy meals for myself and have become quite skilled at buying only what I need. For the most part, I enjoy grocery shopping, except when something like this happens:
This past weekend, I went to the local health food store in search of some fresh bread for a vegetarian meatball sub I was craving. I didn’t want to stock up on too many items since camping and Phish are in my near future. So I went to the bakery counter and ordered what appeared to be a delicious seven-grain loaf, perfect for my veggie meatball creation.
“Just one? Or do you want BOTH?!” the short woman behind the counter waved her tongs and mocked me with a raised eyebrow.
I became flustered. What the hell? Can’t I just order one roll in peace without having to feel sorry about my single status?!
“Oh, uhhh, just one. Thanks!” I grabbed the bag from the woman’s cold hand (avoiding her icy stare) and continued filling my hand basket. I slowly made my way to the frozen food section.
And that’s when I found what I had been hoping for. SOUP FOR ONE!
Tabatchnick has recently launched a new line of single serving soups that are not only wholesome but nutritious as well. I avoid foods loaded in sodium and these have far less than other canned brands I have seen. They’re also low in fat and calories so they make a perfect guilt-free dinner or a grab-and-go meal for the office (in case you’re like me and don’t always have time to prepare lunch for work).
I tried the Vegetarian Chili (which was delicious and very filling if you add some bread for dunking), but they have many other Soup Singles for my fellow veggies, including Barley and Mushroom, Minestrone, and Southwest Bean. There is also a Chicken Noodle soup for the meat eaters who crave a bit of comfort food.
It’s nice to know there are companies looking out for the single gals (and guys!) out there. My prayers have been answered. And bakery counter woman can totally suck it.

Fabulous! I would’ve told the bakery lady to suck it! You are nicer than me!
LMAO @ “And bakery counter woman can suck it.” Thanks for the healthy food tip, Mama!
This is actually really good to know… my kids don’t eat soup and I LOVE it, so I’ll have to check them out the next time I hit Whole Foods, as I imagine that’s where I’ll find them around here!
Perfect! Im the only soup lover in my house, too. And the bakery lady? Cant imagine she is too happy
Ha! Love it. Those are great to keep around whether you live alone or just want to eat alone 🙂
Yum! Perfect!
And the poor bread lady has no idea what kind of dirty looks she’s going to get from your readers! 🙂
Love you, girl!
Ew screw that bakery lady. I always look for food that’s meant for one. I will have to keep this in mind!
Oh, I love soup! Making it is always iffy for me because I like to toss random things in and sometimes that doesn’t work. If I see this at the market, I’m on it. The barley and mushroom sounds delicious.
So people have no clue! This is actually a perfect product for anyone. My hubby is usually never home for dinner and its always me and the boys. So this is perfect for nights {which is most} that I dont feel like cooking!
The bakery lady was probably just jelly that you are so slim and trim. It is guilt for the number of rolls she just ate. 😉
