Tap tap. Hello? Are we live?!
A word of advice for any bloggers—make sure to back that blog up (you’s a fine mother f*cker, won’t you back that blog up. LOL, I apologize. I’ve just really missed you and I can’t control my excitement this morning).
I had an issue with a hacker recently that went on longer than I intended. I’m not entirely sure we’re completely up and running here at My Pixie Blog, BUT we’re taking baby steps and that’s making my heart sing.
Now that I’m back in the saddle again, I have a lot of exciting things coming to you—including today’s post which has been a long time in the making.
I recently found out about 828 Movement, a nonprofit organization that donates 100% of its proceeds towards supporting education in underfunded schools across the country. Why 828? I did some digging on the website, and as it turns out, there were some impactful/incredible things that happened on that date in American history:
August 28, 1833: Slavery was abolished in the UK which led to American abolition
August 28, 1955: Emmett Till was brutally murdered which was a catalyst to the 1960s Civil Rights Movement
August 28, 1963: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream Speech”
August 28, 2005: Hurricane Katrina landed in Louisiana and the delayed response for relief impacted mainly black communities
August 28, 2008: Barack Obama accepted the Democratic Nomination for President
Check out the backstory of this incredible company and the woman who started it. The 828 Movement has created a product line of bracelets with 13 copper rings to honor the 13th amendment which abolished slavery in America. I am proud to be a part of this movement and share my rings with the world—it’s not only a beautiful bracelet, it’s a great conversation piece and one that I hope gets people talking.
