If you reside anywhere in the northeast, I think you can understand why I’ve been scouring sites like Expedia and Travelzoo to get me the eff out of town for awhile. I am tired of snow, this lingering head cold-flu thing, and feeling like I can’t stop my body from shivering. ENOUGH. If it would only stop snowing long enough, now might be the perfect time for an escape to the Caribbean…
The real reason for my desire to leave on a jet plane has to do with this nagging cabin fever that started sometime in October. Now that I work from home and live in the ‘burbs (and don’t have a car, mind you) getting around is proving to be far more difficult than I had anticipated. While these boots are made for walking, I find that when the temperatures drop to the single digits, my body protests when I have places to go. If I have to put on seven layers just to circle the block once, chances are slim that I’ll be walking a mile to the nearest Whole Foods.
But like everything else in life, we make it through the times that are less than pleasant, right? In the grand scheme of things, we’re all experiencing layers of suck in varying degrees these days. Recently I’ve heard some things about working from home and my situation in general, and maybe I’m a bit sensitive, but I think some things are better left unsaid.
You should really get a car. Wow, really? I hadn’t thought of that! But why would I choose to drive myself grocery shopping when I could just as well bust my ass carrying provisions in the snow??
You’re like a stay-at-home mom… without the baby! Believe it or not, I’ve heard this one at least three times. Working from home and raising children are not one and the same.
So, do you like, watch Ellen all day? I know it can be hard to believe, but I do actually have to WORK. From home. So maybe I am wearing pajamas right now, but that’s about as far as I take this schtick. If I don’t stick to a schedule, nothing gets done and then the work gets backed up which means it cuts into my play time.
So about that trip to the Caribbean…
How are you holding up this winter and are you also battling the world’s worst case of cabin fever?
