Yesterday a friend told me I always have a great attitude about things which came as a surprise because I feel like I’ve been a bit Debbie Downer lately in my posts. I’m sorry about that! I really am a very happy person by nature but this year has done a number on me emotionally. I just feel depleted all the dang time. But thankfully we have a new year and vaccines and a new administration on the horizon and those things give me hope + fill my cup.
I also realized I never officially signed off or wished anyone happy holidays (how rude!) so I wanted to hop on quickly with a recap because something tells me I might look back on this time one day 😊
This year our holidays looked very different… mainly because there’s a baby in the picture now! Mila has turned our worlds upside down in the best ways possible and truly is the light in a dark year for us. Because of the pandemic and wanting to limit our exposure / keep everyone as safe as possible, we had dinner with my parents a few days before the holiday and saw Bryan’s immediate family on Christmas Day. My brother and his gf traveled up by car Christmas Eve to meet Mila (they got tested in Florida before they left) and it was a very special moment for us all (including Milo who was happy to see other people). We stayed outside and wore masks the whole time which seemed totally normal in a very strange way lol.
Now that the holidays are behind us I’m going back into hiding for a bit, out of an abundance of caution. We have made it so far and are so close to a vaccine, I don’t want to risk anything at this point. That said, I do have a silly story to leave you with…
Bryan found a local barnyard with a Christmas lights / drive through that we thought would be fun to go to with Mila. We bundled her up and made the trip to Boonton (about 15 minutes away). Once we got there we synced our radio to the Christmas station (which basically played Dominic the Donkey on a loop) and pointed out the bunny and goats to Mila who could not have cared less about any of it. Bryan wanted to show us a light on a barn so he opened the roof of his jeep. Except the roof got stuck on something and he couldn’t close it at which point Mila pooped herself and I realized I didn’t have diapers and we drove home with the roof open in 30 degree weather. Yay, 2020!
Anyway, how were your holidays and what are you doing for the new year?? Any fun plans, new traditions, or dinner recipes you are making for the holiday? I was thinking of creating my first charcuterie board and maybe getting drunk on all the Riesling we have in the house. You’ll likely hear from me before then though! XOXO and hope everyone is having a great week 🙂
