So many of us talk about doing our part to protect the environment but how many actually do something about it? Of course, we separate paper from plastic in the recycling bin and buy organic greens to carry in a reusable tote. Global warming and other environmental concerns are raising awareness and now is the time to live a more conservative lifestyle. It means making lifestyle changes to help save our planet. These ideas are put into place not only to help our earth but also to keep families healthy–as a bonus, they don’t hurt the bank either! How can you do your part? Below are a few tips and tricks to help right away.
Creating A Green Home
Save Energy: One of the biggest ways you can help save the planet is by conserving energy within your home. Turning the lights off is a simple thing that many people forget. If you or others in your home are forgetful, install movement sensors so the light is only activated when needed. Another way is to install automatic timers for lights so they aren’t left on in rooms upstairs. Switching to fluorescent lightbulbs is another way to help. They are available to fit many light fixtures and only use a quarter of the electricity of regular bulbs!
Unplug: I’m sure we could all use a break from our electronic appliances including the computer, tablet, TV, or CD players. These consume a lot of energy when in standby mode as they do when you use them. Think about unplugging them or better yet, staying off for at least a day during the weekend to not only help your energy bill but clear your mind as well.

Clear the Air: During the winter, we might think we are doing all we can to keep our house protected but one of the best ways to help with allergies is to call in a professional. If you see any signs of mold and live in the New Jersey area, try Nash Everett. This professional team is one of the best mold removal companies in the Ocean Township area. For starters, they have years of experience to help you and your family and they know first-hand the effects allergies and mold can play, especially during the winter months. They offer services like duct cleaning, germ bust systems, indoor health assessments, and ventilation. These are all ideas to help you live your best, green lifestyle. Gary and his team strive to make sure that every client understands how to keep safe and comfortable within their home.
Let The Sun In: Open your blinds, drapes, or shutters and let that solar energy warm and brighten your home the easy way! If it isn’t a sunny day out obviously this won’t work, but if you can, let in as much natural light as possible! This also helps instantly brighten up your mood!
Grow Plants Indoors: Did you know that if you have live plants around your home they can act as a natural air filter? Some are more effective of harmful pollutants that are emitted from furniture, carpets, and your electric equipment. Help clean that indoor air, especially in the winter, by adding more green to your living space! You can put them in your guest bedrooms, family room, or hallway. If you don’t have a green thumb there are several options that don’t require a lot of care too.
Grab Green Products At The Store: There are so many cleaning products we use that might do the job but also add a lot of chemicals into the air. Switch to green products to still get the job, dirt, and grime off your furniture, counters, and high traffic areas without any of those breathable chemicals. If you aren’t sure what to look for, check out reviews of green products or ask neighbors and friends for their input as well.
Going green does not have to be something you do in one day but is really a gradual and lifestyle change for all involved. It means helping your family, your home, and your planet by just fixing a few things at a time. Even just giving a small green plant as a hostess gift is a start to green living! I can’t wait to hear what other ideas you can come up with.
