Of all the getaways Bryan and I have taken over the years, this was the quietest but also the most necessary. Life has been especially hectic and crazy in the last few months and shit’s about to get real so it was good to pack up the car with snacks and make our way to Wilkes-Barre, PA, even if only for a few very quick days. We arrived at our hotel around 5 on Friday and relaxed for a bit until dinnertime. Naturally this knucklehead didn’t know what to do with himself and it took him several hours to decompress and completely annoy the eff out of all his canine and human neighbors.

That night, we had some Italian at the resort for dinner, then picked up cards and played Spit. Obviously I beat Bryan in a very tight match. Actually he cheated and may have won a few rounds (WHO — USES TWO HANDS DURING A FAST-PACED CARD GAME?! Cheaters, that’s who). Saturday we were up early for breakfast and then we went to downtown Scranton for the Houdini Museum, which apparently is by appointment only. That’s okay. I regaled Bryan with “ain’t no party like a Scranton party cause a Scranton party don’t stop” about 200 times in the car, until he threatened to leave me on the side of the road.
We did lots of antiquing that day, and Bryan found and fell in love with this sign. I had to remind him we have a baby on the way and that anyone who knows us already knows we’re just a few nuts shy of a fruitcake.
Also we stopped in this amazing store called Strange and Unusual and I told Bryan this is how I envision our bedroom decor. I mean, HOW FRIGGIN’ COOL is everything here!?! So many taxidermied things and bizarre gifts and skeletons. I loved all of it. We managed to walk away with just a bag of their coffee so clearly I was able to practice some restraint, too 🙂
That evening we found a really great vegan restaurant and we dined on veggie burgers, a chicken cordon bleu, smoked bacon mac n’ cheese, and delicious almond peanut butter smoothies–yes, all vegan! We then took the terror out for a walk around the courtyard of our hotel and Bryan settled in for some TV while I read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Yes, totally lame, but very, very relaxing. Also we used waffle makers and now I want one of my own.
Sunday we headed out around noon and took care of some things before the big game. Did you watch? The ads were lacking a bit this year but I loved the Smaht Pahk and Jeep Groundhog Day commercials the most.
Also what deal with the devil have JLo and Shakira made?! I hate that anyone would give them ANY kind of flack for their wildly entertaining halftime show, and thought it was immensely entertaining.
I’m so glad you had a nice and relaxing time away! It honestly sounds like perfection to me, playing cards, reading, antique shopping? Sign me up! I’m laughing so hard at that sign, I’d have been very tempted by it as well. And oh Milo. He is just too dang cute in his jammies though! Yes I want to drink the water that J.Lo and Shakira are drinking!!
The Poconos are such a neat place. You guys had a great view. Hope you enjoyed your stay! <3
Ooh looks like you had a really nice, relaxing time– even if Milo was a bit of a crazy puppy. LOL I LOVE that sign that Bryan fell in love with…ahhh so great.
I did watch the Superbowl for the most part – my family watches it more than me, but I really liked some of the commercials and the halftime show, and people that are complaining need to just stop.

That Strange & Unusual store is right up my alley! And I’d want to buy the Insane Asylum sign, too!
That’s an amazing view from your room!
What a fun getaway! And Milo is the cutest in his PJs 🙂
Milo looks like he was full of piss and vinegar when you snapped that shot. I could tell by his pose he was in blitz mode. He is cute and does get away with murder, doesn’t he?!
I love thats you sang to your hearts content, so much so that B almost left you on the side of the road. Hahahahah
I do hope it was in the end, a really relaxing time away. Shits about to get real, son!!
Love you babe xoxo
